REFERENCE PROJECTS
As Niche Electronics is a new born company, we do not have reference projects of our own. Below are reference projects that have been handled by our engineers before.

1. High Reliability Asset Tracking System
-
This is basically a locker system that is real time linked to a remote backend
-
Each locker has it's own controller that monitor the presence of objects inside the locker using RFID and proximity sensing
-
All lockers are linked to a local host via RS485 bus
-
To improve reliability, a dual RS485 bus has been used. This allow failure in any one of the buses to be tolerated and be reportable to the backend
-
For more accurate and reliable object sensing, open/short detection has been added to all digital IO lines. This ensure that any fault due to cabling can be actively detected.
-
All detected faults can be reported to the backend to trigger repair service
2. Motorised Smart Card Reader
-
An on-going project that started in 2005 and is still running today
-
~ 1000 units produced over 16 years
-
This reader has to be custom-made because almost all the motorised smart card readers in the market are using proprietary protocol (non-pcsc)
-
Special considerations has been made to enhance reliability and to allow the card to remain retrievable even in case of hardware/firmware/software failure

3. Payment Terminal for Self-service Photocopier
-
An on-going project that started in 2009 and is still running today
-
~ 800 units produced over 12 years
-
Accept contactless card payment for services consumed at Photocopier
-
Three generations of terminal have been developed because of technology substitution and features upgrade
-
Beat the competitions by introducing an automated revenue file collection system that waive the need to do manual revenue file collection
-
Maximize uptime by implementing software intelligence to deal with minor faults encountered in daily operations

4. Biometric Card Reader
-
An innovative product that can verify a card holder's identity and produce a digitally signed verification report.
-
The signed verification report is intended to provide evidence on the presence of the card holder at a particular incident such as signing of an important document.
-
Reader contains a contact card reader and a fingerprint scanner
-
Card holder's fingerprint is matched with the record retrieved from the inserted identity card
-
A simple Key Management System has been developed to support preparation of keys for reader and staff
-
The root of trust of the system, which is the root RSA key, can be prepared by the system owner himself/herself and therefore is in full control by him/her.
-
Unfortunately, this reader has not been materialised because of not enacted legislation leading to weak market adoption.
-
If you are interested in this product, we can route you to the project owner for further discussion.
5. LVDS Test Board
-
A tester custom designed for production line use
